SUMMARY:Science Distilled: Using technology to overcome the challenges of 2020
DESCRIPTION:“Unprecedented” will be remembered as the watchword of 2020. Together\, we have faced unforeseen challenges in our education\, work\, business\, social\, and home lives brought on by the global pandemic. With life seemingly overturned\, creative uses of technology to connect us and overcome these struggles have emerged in unexpected places. \nThis Science Distilled event brings together leaders from across Nevada to share their experiences of resilience\, hope\, and innovation. We will explore the imaginative ways that they are using technology to overcome difficulties\, continue connecting us\, and provide long-term solutions to some of society’s most daunting problems. \nTenacity in the face of adversity is a part of the Nevada identity that runs deep. Let’s celebrate the spirit of innovation and resilience that Nevada communities have brought to face the challenges created by this pandemic. \nThis virtual edition of Science Distilled will be live-streamed on YouTube. Prior to Blockchains\, she served as Director of a public library and digital learning center working closely with community partners to provide lifelong learning opportunities. They were the first public library in the nation to offer an industry recognized credential in Manufacturing Technology. \nRachel Kingham is the Community Manager at Reno Collective\, Reno’s first coworking hub. She spends her days connecting members to members and members to resources – while striving to share the awesomeness that is coworking with the community-at-large. As a mother of 2\, Rachel stays pretty busy round-the-clock\, but when able she carves out free time for making art and day-dreaming about travel. \nJaci McCune\, Professional Learning Facilitator\, joins us from the Northwest Regional Professional Development Program and member of Nevada’s STEM Advisory Council and Computer Science Sub-Committee. Her main focus is to provide training and support to Nevada educators in integrated educational technology and computer science. He is responsible for executing the overall strategic plan of the center. Brian has a passion to serve and better his community by building stronger partnerships.  He stays busy year round\, taking advantage of all that Vegas and Nevada has to offer.
